ORAL COMMUNICATION

Introduction to the subjects’ background

This study was participated by ten (10) people with different jobs from different companies.  I chose to interview my subjects to establish the importance of the study and practice of oral communication in the point of view of those people with different perspective and interpretation of my case study. From their experience at work, they can easily contribute to the ideas that may lead to the conclusion whether or not oral communication is useful for the advancement the students in the future.

Oral communication may be underestimated especially by the students who seemingly believe that oral communication is irrelevant to their field of study.  By means of this study, we may be able to establish the need to undertake oral communication in the Sports Track.

These subjects, although they came from different scopes of employment, are likewise experiencing similar situations with regards to the importance of oral communication in their jobs.

I chose to use subjects from different fields of studies in order to establish that oral communication skill is highly needed in any field of studies, and that it is of high importance to each of us.  Whether you are a Dentist, a Teacher, or a Gym Instructor, you will need oral communication skills in dealing with people.

Communication problem summary

Oral communication refers to the student’s ability to speak English fluently and effectively. Speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing, receiving and processing information.

There are many factors that results to communication problems. The most common reason that bring about communication problems is the lack of interest of the students in oral communication.  Most of the students believe that they will not need expertise in oral communication because they will not use this in their work in the future, depending on their choice of job in the future. But the truth of the fact is that oral communication skills is so important in every job there maybe.  There is no single job that will not use oral communication as it is the main factor in social interaction.

Another reason that causes communication problem is the nature of the language used by every individual.  There are some regions that make use of English language as their primary language and because of this, oral communication comes naturally for them.  But there are also some regions too that do not use English language at all in their daily living, and even in their classes in school. In this case, oral communication needs an extra curriculum in order to develop communication skills among their students.
